Mechanical Engineering · Role - MEP Engineers
MEP Engineers Coordinating Across Trades and Models
MEP engineers coordinate mechanical, electrical, and plumbing design so systems fit together without clashes. A weak hire creates coordination gaps that surface as field conflicts.

Role overview
What mep engineers do
MEP engineers coordinate the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing design disciplines so building systems fit together physically and functionally before construction starts. Their work includes clash detection in coordinated BIM models, resolving space conflicts between ductwork, conduit, and piping, and ensuring each discipline's design supports the others' requirements. This is a coordination-heavy role that requires enough depth in all three disciplines to identify conflicts, even without owning detailed design in each.
Hiring is difficult because true MEP coordinators, not just engineers who happen to work adjacent to multiple disciplines, are a distinct skill set. Many candidates are deep in one discipline and shallow in the other two, which limits their ability to catch cross-discipline conflicts early. We screen specifically for demonstrated multi-discipline coordination experience.
Scope of work
Core responsibilities
We screen against these responsibilities directly rather than against job-title history.

- Run clash detection reviews in BIM coordination models
- Resolve space conflicts between ductwork, conduit, and piping
- Support design reviews to confirm cross-discipline compatibility
- Coordinate with structural engineers on penetrations and supports
- Track resolution of coordination issues through to construction documents

Grid Method™ screening
What we specifically screen for in this discipline
Cross-discipline coordination depth - We test whether a candidate has resolved real mechanical-electrical-plumbing clashes in coordinated drawings, not just reviewed single-discipline sheets.
Deployment
Projects this role supports
- Data center MEP coordination
- Multi-trade clash detection on large builds
- Building system integration for industrial facilities
- Renovation MEP coordination with existing conditions
- New construction BIM coordination programs
Market reality
Why this role is hard to fill
Multi-discipline depth is rare
Most engineers are strongest in one MEP discipline, so we verify actual coordination experience across all three, not assumed breadth.
BIM coordination skill varies by tool version and workflow
Navisworks and Revit coordination practices differ by firm, and we confirm hands-on model coordination, not just model viewing.
Renovation coordination adds complexity
Coordinating new MEP design around undocumented existing conditions is a harder skill than greenfield coordination, and we screen for it separately.

How we recruit mep engineers
Define coordination scope
Day 1
We confirm which disciplines and BIM workflow your project uses before sourcing.
Technical screen
Candidates walk through a real clash detection process and how they resolved a cross-discipline conflict.
Reference verification
We confirm coordination ownership and outcomes with former project leads.
Shortlist delivery
Days 5–10
Candidates arrive matched to your BIM workflow and project complexity.
